David Sutherland Design has gained extensive experience over the years designing homes, buildings and developments for individuals with an Intellectual Disability.
​
We understand that any successful project in this aspect of design and development is dependent on an environment that is co-produced, with everyone that is instrumental in the design, development and delivery of the end product involved in the process.

A thorough understanding of the individuals needs, the needs of the family/carers, multi-disciplinary professionals and the people who provide the daily care and support is important to ensure that a home for life is achieved.

We have developed a rigorous briefing process to ensure all stakeholders are heard and involved fully in the design and construction process. At the centre of this are the needs of the individual.

We have project managed complex and bespoke buildings from inception through to occupation and post occupation, and we have successfully created homes for people with a diverse range of needs and those who can exhibit challenging behaviour.

Residential Design
We have designed and developed housing developments over many years. These have ranged in scale from small infill sites to large scale, multiple landowner developments, comprising hundreds of units.

We have experience in land acquisition, due-diligence and negotiating complex agreements between multiple developers and land owners.

We have experience in development design, the complexities of the planning system and developing modern, energy efficient homes that create a sense of place and relate to their context and location.

Designing Homes
​We have designed hundreds of homes over the years, always creating innovative and imaginative spaces for our clients. Our philosophy when designing homes is to ensure we create beautiful buildings that meet all of the needs of the individual using the space. This requires a comprehensive briefing process and an understanding of clients aspirations and needs.
We will always endeavour to listen closely to what they want and incorporate this into their home in a beautiful and creative way. We have experience in designing homes form small extensions to large bespoke houses. Our attention to detail and belief in using quality materials is crucial and we are committed to designing energy efficient sustainable homes.

David Sutherland
David Sutherland is a Design Consultant and Architect, specialising in all types of residential design. He has extensive experience designing residential developments of all types, individual houses and extensions. He specialises in the design, construction and adaptation of homes for individuals with an Intellectual Disability.
He is a registered Architect with over 25 years experience, offering expertise in due diligence, brief development, planning, listed buildings, design, procurement, construction, compliance, project management and adaptations.
David has worked with Individuals, private developers, and care providers in both the private and public sector to design and develop in partnership, bespoke accommodation to meet the needs of all involved.

David has designed some of the largest and most complex housing developments in Northern Ireland and has designed many individual homes and large extensions.
